2. Choosing Your DJ Name & Style
Your name is your calling card. Your style is your identity. Both are part of your impact.
If you want to be remembered, you need a name and musical style that reflect who you are — and resonate with people. Think beyond just “what sounds cool.” Your name and sound should match your vibe, your vision, and your goals.
How to choose your name:
- Make it short and easy to remember. If it’s hard to spell, people won’t find you.
- Check if the domain and Instagram handle are available. Ideally, you want consistency across platforms.
- Avoid clichés or existing names. No more “DJ Alex” or “BassMaster420.”
- Test it with friends. Ask: “Does it sound like a real artist?”
How to define your style:
- Be specific. Not “I play everything,” but “deep organic house” or “acid techno with a tribal edge.”
- Don’t chase trends. Trends fade. Your sound should reflect your taste, not someone else’s.
- Think in colors and emotions. What does your music feel like — warm? hypnotic? playful? introspective?
- Find 2–3 reference artists. Not to copy, but to position yourself.
Mini Checklist:
- [ ] My name is unique and easy to spell
- [ ] Domain and social handles are available
- [ ] I know how to describe my sound in one phrase
- [ ] My name and sound fit together naturally
- [ ] People can quickly understand what I do
