3. Your Unique Selling Point (USP)
What makes you not just a DJ — but the DJ?
You might be technically flawless — but that’s no longer enough. With thousands of DJs and endless access to music, promoters and club owners are looking for something more: emotion, effect, atmosphere. Something only you can bring.
Your USP is your core concept, your energy, your story. It’s what makes you memorable — and makes people invite you back. Without clear positioning, you're just another “house DJ.”
What your USP could be:
- Energy: You fire up the dancefloor without saying a word.
- Depth: You create an atmosphere people get lost in.
- Eclectic taste: You mix unexpected genres — and it works.
- Signature ritual: You always start or end sets in your own unique way.
- Visual style: You look like an art piece or straight out of a movie.
- Format: You play on vinyl, cassette, synths — or sing live over your own sets.
- Message: You have a philosophy you express through music.
Examples:
- DJ TenWalls — dark techno-funky with Balkan flavor
- Peggy Gou — Korean aesthetics + vintage vocals over modern tech house
- Dixon — no talking, just 3 hours of meditative progressive hypnosis
- Fatboy Slim — madness, beach energy, funky chaos, psychedelic joy
How to find your USP:
- What do people thank you for after a gig?
- What do you offer that others can’t?
- Where are you most authentic — not trying to be someone else?
Mini Checklist:
- [ ] I know what makes people invite me again
- [ ] I can describe my vibe and style in one sentence
- [ ] I have a signature that repeats and becomes recognizable
- [ ] My music creates a specific emotion or feeling
- [ ] My visual image matches my sound
